FLA Encourages Swift Passage of the 2026 Farm Bill

The Forest Landowners Association (FLA) strongly supports swift passage of a comprehensive, bipartisan Farm Bill that reflects today’s economic realities and ensures the long-term success of America’s family forestry businesses.

Private forest landowners steward more than one-third of the nation’s forests, providing essential environmental, economic, and social benefits—from clean air and water to wildlife habitat and a reliable supply of sustainable wood products. A strong Farm Bill is critical to supporting this stewardship by maintaining access to markets, strengthening conservation programs, and equipping landowners with the tools they need to manage their forests for generations to come.

The advancement of the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 by the House Agriculture Committee marks an important step forward. FLA commends congressional leaders, including House Agriculture Committee Chairman GT Thompson and Ranking Member Angie Craig, for their continued focus on delivering a bipartisan solution. We urge both the House and Senate to build on this momentum and prioritize the timely passage of a full Farm Bill.

Since the last Farm Bill was enacted in 2018, forest landowners have faced mounting challenges—from rising input costs and supply chain disruptions to market volatility and global uncertainty. These pressures underscore the urgent need for updated policies that reflect current conditions. The industry cannot continue to meet the demands of 2026 with the policy framework of 2018.

A comprehensive Farm Bill must include the full suite of programs that support working lands, including conservation, market development, risk management, and technical assistance. These programs are essential not only for the viability of family forestry businesses but also for the health and resilience of rural communities across the country.

FLA and its members stand ready to work with Congress to ensure the final Farm Bill is forward-looking, practical, and responsive to the needs of private forest landowners.
