FLA’s Statement on President Trump’s Timber Executive Orders

On March 1, President Trump issued two executive orders: Addressing the Threat to National Security from Imports of Timber and Lumber and Immediate Expansion of American Timber Production. We appreciate the administration’s focus on prioritizing domestically sourced timber, as privately owned working forests supply over 90 percent of the timber used in forest products relied on across the nation.

Family forest landowners depend on market access to maintain healthy, resilient forests capable of meeting demand for generations to come. We encourage the administration to continue prioritizing American wood –particularly from the private landowners who steward these critical resources–providing both environmental and economic benefits for our nation.

We look forward to working with the Trump Administration and Congress to continue strengthening policies that support family forest landowners, expand market access, and ensure our forests continue to thrive in the face of evolving challenges.
